Attendance

All state and state-integrated schools in New Zealand are required to implement an Attendance Management Plan. This must include the STAR framework and be in place by the start of Term 1 2026.

Regular school attendance is important for students to achieve their educational potential. The government target is that 80% of students will be regularly attending school by 2030.

We recognise the importance of regular attendance to help our students achieve their educational potential. Our attendance procedures ensure students are present and engaged during school hours. This also enables school staff to identify and respond to attendance concerns early, while supporting student wellbeing and working closely with families to remove barriers to regular attendance.

We have a stepped attendance response to help identify students who may need support and to offer appropriate interventions at key thresholds. This approach focuses on working in partnership with families to understand challenges and provide support so students can return to regular attendance.

We have annual targets for student attendance and work with students, parents and caregivers, staff and external agencies where necessary, to improve our levels of student attendance.

Concord School had 65% regular attendance in 2025, and we have set a target of lifting regular attendance to 70% by the end of 2026.
