At Concord School we follow the CARE expectations. These are important to support and promote a safe, happy and successful learning environment.

These expectations are discussed regularly in classes and at CARE assemblies.

Support Systems

We are fortunate to have experienced and knowledgeable teacher aides that work in all classes of the school. They work alongside the teachers and support students in the class 1-1 or in small groups.

As well as this we offer:

  • Reading Recovery
  • Early Literacy Support
  • Rainbow Reading
  • Social Worker in Schools (SWiS) (see below)

Social Workers in Schools (SWiS)

SWiS is a primary and intermediate-school based community social work service.  It is a free service for children in the school, and for their whānau.

The Service works with the strengths of the child and their whānau to help achieve positive change for the child.

These could include:

  • the child being more engaged in school
  • the child being safe, socialised and with a strong sense of wellbeing
  • happy, healthy children
  • developing empathy
  • building self-esteem and confidence
  • identify and managing feelings

The SWiS programme is tailored to meet the specific needs of each child.
