Welcome to Room 5. We are a mixture of Year 4, 5 and 6 children. Miss Ross teaches us until lunchtime, then Mr Turnbull, the Principal, comes and teaches us in the afternoon.
In the mornings we complete reading, writing, maths and spelling, while in the afternoons we have handwriting, topic, art and PE.
For reading and mathematics children are grouped according to their needs and together with room 4, we cross group our teaching, focussing on specific groups.
Every Thursday morning we have whanau hui with room 4 where we learn new songs and actions that we can perform at the local polyfest concert in term 3.
In Room 5 we have lots of responsibilities such as the daybook, locking gates, road wardens and running fortnightly assemblies. One of our special programmes is PAL’s, which is Physical Activity Leaders. They take groups of children and lead them with exciting games at lunch times. The experts at Sport Otago train us. All children in Room 5 aim to be good role models for the juniors.
Every year the children go on camp. Year 4 children have an overnight camp at the museum. Year 5 children have a 3 day camp while the year 6 children have a 5 day camp. They do some amazing activities such as Adventuremasters, curling in Naseby, riding part of the Rail Trail, Moana Pool for canoe and safety lessons.
Every fortnight we are lucky enough to have a sports activator come to our school. They teach us skills in sports such as cricket, gymnastics and athletics.
Room 5 is a great class to be in, we love learning with our friends.
