Concord School 100th Reunion
October 24th and 25th 2014
What a fantastic weekend we had to celebrate the very special occasion of our school’s centenary. We hope all of the attendees enjoyed the weekend and were able to catch up with old friends and rekindle happy memories of their school days. Saturday was a great community day and we were very fortunate with the weather.
Many of the 90 visitors that attended came from all over NZ and also a few were from Australia. I really enjoyed talking to many of them about their experiences as pupils at Concord School. Many of the stories were of the strapping and caning variety which made for interesting listening, and made me realise how different and child-centered education is today, and that I would much prefer to be a child at school now. Thank you to everyone who came to the reunion and shared your stories with us.
The children’s performance was outstanding and we all received so many positive comments from our visitors. Thank you very much to our parents for their support with the production and thank you also to the staff for all their extra work in the first two weeks of the term planning and organising the production.
The Reunion was a real team effort with many people involved, although I would particularly like to thank the Board of Trustees for cooking the barbecue on Saturday, and the Parents Group for providing the refreshments. Thank you also to the Central Dunedin Baptist Church for providing the yummy baking. The Church is currently building new premises near the motorway which will be a great asset for our community.
I would also like to thank the Year 6 students who took our visitors on tours around the school and answered many questions. Finally I would like to thank the Reunion Committee who have met regularly over the last 18 months planning and organising the event. Thank you for your commitment and hard work to make the reunion such a successful event.
Photos have now been posted to those who ordered them at the Reunion, and have now been posted on this page.
