Health Promoting School
Healthy eating.
Fruit in schools.
Concord School is a Health Promoting School. We believe in teaching and learning through, in, and about physical activity and its benefits to each of us. Physical Education as well as healthy eating and living a healthy life style leading to life long learning is a priority.
We have been involved in the School and Community Physical Activity project (SCPAP) and continue to promote teaching and learning in this way. Fruit in Schools has begun at Concord and the children enjoy a variety of fruit three times a week. The children look forward to this Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On the other two days of the school week the children are encouraged to access the breakfast offered before school.
We call this our Breakfast Club and are very grateful to the very supportive parents who come in to prepare and serve the breakfast to children in our hall - Jackie, Rachel, Kim and Renee. The food is kindly donated by Sanitarium and Fonterra and the programme is called the KickStart Breakfasts.
During 2011 the Parents Group decided to offer hot lunches over the winter months to add to the daily Smart Lunches, and Pizza that is offered every Friday. The children now have a choice every Wednesday of delicious meals such as American Hot Dogs, Macaroni Cheese, Cheese Rolls, Wedges and Savaloys. Lunchtime has become very busy for all concerned, and the children enjoy sitting under cover on our new deck munching on their healthy options.

Sun Smart School
In 2011 we are working towards achieving Sun Smart accreditation through the development of a new Sun Smart Policy This includes the requirement for every child to wear a school regulation broad brimmed hat during terms 1 and 4, and encouraging other protection practices for extended exposure to the sun.
